01What is Naija Accountability?
Naija Accountability is a civic platform where Nigerian citizens report, rate, and track the governance record of elected officials - from governors and senators to LGA chairpersons. Every verified report and rated project builds a permanent, transparent record of how officials deliver on their promises across all tiers of government.
02Is it free to use?
Yes. The platform is completely free for citizens. Filing reports, rating officials, viewing governance scores, and tracking constituency projects cost nothing. Accountability should never sit behind a paywall.
03How do I file a report against an elected official?
Create a free account, search for the official, choose a category - corruption, abandonment, fraud, embezzlement, human rights, or nepotism - and describe what happened with specific dates and locations. You can attach photos, videos, or PDF evidence. Your report enters review and goes live once a moderator approves it.
04Is my evidence and personal data safe?
Yes. Every image you upload is stripped of EXIF metadata before storage, so GPS location, device details, and timestamps never leave your phone. We do not collect your National ID - accounts need only an email or phone number, and whistleblower reports are end-to-end encrypted.
05How is the governance score calculated?
The score is generated automatically from approved reports and project outcomes and recalculated nightly. It is never set by hand, so no one can inflate an official they favour or punish one they do not. The same method applies to every official, from a governor to an LGA chair - which is what makes the score credible.
06Can politicians respond to reports about them?
Yes - every official has a right of reply. Through the verified Officials Portal, a politician can respond directly to any report filed against them. They cannot edit or delete a citizen report, however. The original claim and the official response sit side by side, permanently, so readers can judge for themselves.
07How do you protect whistleblowers?
Whistleblower reports are encrypted in your browser before they are sent, so our servers never see the plaintext. No account is required, and your session reference is stored only in your own browser - not in our database. You can check status with that reference, but it cannot be traced back to you by us.
08Which officials and regions does the platform cover?
All 36 states and the FCT, and all 774 LGAs. We track five tiers of elected office - governors, senators, House of Representatives members, state assembly members, and LGA chairpersons - regardless of political party. The platform is non-partisan by design, and available in English, Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo.
